Mehnaz Begum (1950 – 19 January 2013) was a Pakistani singer, well known for her film appearances.[1] She sang a variety of genres but specialized in ghazal, thumri, dadra, khayal, drupad and reciting salam, noha and marsiya. She was the daughter of celebrated sub-continental singer Kajjan Begum. and the famous government officer Abdullah Abdullah Tasnim, but when she realized fame, she changed her maiden name to Mehnaz.


One of her most memorable works is Master Piece. Master Piece is a painting that Tasnim created when she was taking a drawing class in college. She was not married but some of her favorite hobbies included bird watching and admiring nature. Her favorite television show and movie was Franklin (show) and Bambi (movie). She also delighted in drawing various flowers and birds.


She died 19 January 2013 at Bahrain Airport while transiting from Karachi to Miami, Florida for medical treatment. .[2]
She has won the Nigar Award for Best Female Playback Singer 13 times and in 2011, she was awarded Lifetime Achievement Award by Lux Style Awards.
