Entity Framework Core 2.1 Adding related data with a composite foreign key
I have an parent InspectionData model with a composite primary key to two other tables(Component and Inspection) and a child WrittenFindings model:
public class InspectionData
{
public int InspectionId { get; set; }
public virtual Inspection Inspection { get; set; }
public int? ComponentId { get; set; }
public virtual Component Component { get; set; }
public virtual WrittenFinding WrittenFinding { get; set; }
}
public class WrittenFinding
{
public int Id { get; set; }
public int? InspectionId { get; set; }
public int? ComponentId { get; set; }
public virtual InspectionData InspectionData { get; set; }
[Required]
public string Text { get; set; }
}
WrittenFinding is configured through FluentApi here:
modelBuilder.Entity<WrittenFinding>()
.HasOne(wf => wf.InspectionData)
.WithOne(id => id.WrittenFinding)
.HasForeignKey<WrittenFinding>(wf => new { wf.InspectionId, wf.ComponentId })
.OnDelete(DeleteBehavior.Cascade);
I am trying to add them to the database with this:
_context.InspectionData.Add(inspectionData);
await _context.SaveChangesAsync();
But I run into a foreign key constraint when I do:
SqlException: The INSERT statement conflicted with the FOREIGN KEY constraint "FK_WrittenFinding_InspectionData_InspectionId_ComponentId". The conflict occurred in database "InstantBSIContext-26452145-dc4a-4073-ae99-96b88874434d", table "dbo.InspectionData".
This is what the data I'm adding looks like:
InspectionId: 3
ComponentId: 1
WrittenFinding[InspectionId]: 3
WrittenFinding[ComponentId]: 1
WrittenFinding[Text]: <p><br></p>
I know there is a component with an id of 1 and an inspection with an id of 3 in the database and I know I'm sending and receiving the data correctly due to debugging.
If I remove WrittenFinding from the data I send, then InspectionData will be inserted just fine.
Why am I running into this error with valid values for my composite foreign key?

There's nothing obviously wrong with the bits you've posted. Can you pull it together into a minimal, complete repro?
