react-native-elements search bar submitting on first char input

to all.

I have a react-native app that is using the react-native-elements search bar to make a query to a database. The search bar is submitting on the rare occasion when I enter the first char of the search param string after I go to a different screen and press the back arrow. It does not happen every time but does happen enough that is unacceptable from a user standpoint.

code:

      <SearchBar
lightTheme
round
containerStyle={styles.inputCont}
inputStyle={styles.input}
searchIcon={{ size: 24 }}
onChangeText={(searchId) => this.setState({ searchId })}
value={this.state.searchId}
// onSubmitEditing={this.Search.bind(this)}
onEndEditing={this.Search.bind(this)}
placeholder="Enter your search"
maxLength={12}
/>

I have tried changing from onSubmitEditing to onEndEditing and the problem (from my perception) has decrease. It is a very strange bug and I am not sure how to fix the issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advanced if you take a look at this.

  • Ok I found my problem and it had nothing to do with the SearchBar. I was calling this.state.loading = true in the navigation and for some reason when the user focused the search bar and push a character it would submit and go into the loading stage of the navigation. Coder error. Thanks for taking a look.
