Installing GSL to use topicmodels in RStudio Server on Google Cloud

0

Installation of the topicmodels package in a RStudio instance on a Google Cloud VM (Debian) produces the error:

ctm.c:29:25: fatal error: gsl/gsl_rng.h: No such file or directory
#include <gsl/gsl_rng.h>

And installation of the gsl package, a wrapper of GSL, yields this error:

** package ‘gsl’ successfully unpacked and MD5 sums checked
checking for gsl-config... no
configure: error: gsl-config not found, is GSL installed?
ERROR: configuration failed for package ‘gsl’
* removing ‘/usr/local/lib/R/site-library/gsl’

I have attempted to install GSL via the shell but don't seem to be succeeding.

I installed libsgsl using:

sudo apt-get install libgsl0ldbl
sudo apt-get install libgsl0-dev

Has anyone else encountered this and how have you solved it?
