Allowing invalid certificates from localhost on browser App

Trying to execute a POST with XMLHttpRequest to a localhost application (with an invalid SSL certificate) with a browser app causes the browser to block this request unless you opt for enabling the allow-insecure-localhost flag (chrome).
Is there any workaround for this scenario, where changing this flag isn't mandatory?
