How to make Template Images

0

I have understood that for detecting some kind of feature or some patch of interest in an image, we use template images. The template image slides over large image and finds how much each patch of the image is similar to the template. This can be used for face detection etc.

But I want to understand how a template can be made. How a Template really looks like? Is it similar to any image or is it different? Fox example,if I want to make a template for detecting footballs in an image, how can I go about doing that? How reliable is Template matching?

Template matching is reliable if the appearance doesn't change. A face, a ball, their appearances change if you look at them from a different angle, or if the direction of illumination changes.

  • Oh okay. So if we're detecting faces, should we use multiple templates which have different views for more reliable detection? Is it feasible?
