Malaysia Airlines Flight 2133 (MH2133/MAS2133) was a scheduled domestic passenger flight from Kota Kinabalu to Tawau which crashed due to pilot error on 15 September 1995, taking the lives of 32 of the 49 passengers and 2 of the 4 crew on board. The plane crashed during approach after a failed go-around. This was the first hull loss of a Fokker 50.[1]
Accident
The aircraft involved was a Fokker 50 manufactured in 1990 with the tail number 9M-MGH. There were 49 passengers, two pilots, and two cabin crew aboard the aircraft. The scheduled flight time was one hour.[2]
At 12:22 local time, while the aircraft was approaching runway 17 at Tawau Airport, it landed 500 metres outside the runway and crashed into a shantytown on the fringes of the airport.[3] There were 34 fatalities and 19 survivors.[2]
