HTML5 swapping between streams and video files

I have a web page that sometimes displays streams and sometimes displays video files (mp4). I'm having trouble swapping between them.
This is my code to play a stream:
myVideo.srcObject = aStream; // a stream retrieved from mediaDevices.getUserMedia()
This is my code to play an mp4:
// myVideoSource is the source sub-element of the video tag.
pathToTexture = 'media/blah.mp4';
myVideoSource.setAttribute('src', pathToTexture);
myVideo.load();
myVideo.play();
I can start the mp4 fine. And I can swap to the stream fine. But when I try to go back to the mp4, it just continues to play the stream. I've tried stopping the stream.
This was all working before when I used
myVideoSource.setAttribute('src', window.URL.createObjectURL(aStream))
to set the stream. But Chrome prints a deprecation warning so I was trying to fix that.
I have a feeling that somehow srcObject and videoSource.src are not playing nice together.
