how to get root access and remove downloading time error

Whenever I try to download any file on my linux mint it gives me an error:
could not be saved, because the disk, folder, or file is write-protected.
Write-enable the disk and try again, or try saving in a different location
what to do to resolve this problem and how to get root access to access other drives on linux mint
