Error when importing Cython compiled module

0

I have the following file structure

  • main.py

  • localModules( Directory containing the following)

    • init.py

    • setup.py

    • fastloop.pyx

    • attribs.py

What I want to do is compile fastloop.pyx (already done) and then call the compiled code in attribs.
Currently my code looks like this

#setup.py
from distutils.core import setup, Extension
from Cython.Build import cythonize
import numpy

setup(
ext_modules=cythonize("fastloop.pyx"),
include_dirs=[numpy.get_include()]
)
#attribs.py
import numpy as np
import math
from scipy.signal import hilbert, chirp
import fastloop

#main.py
from localModules import attribs
if __name__ == "__main__":
print("hello")

when I compile fastloop.pyx, the file structure under localModules becomes

    • setup.py

    • init.py

    • fastloop.pyx

    • fastloop.h

    • fastloop.c

    • attribs.py

    • localModules/fastloop.so

But when I execute python main.py I get the following error

File "main.py", line 3, in <module>
from localModules import attribs
File "/home-angel/localModules/attribs.py", line 5, in <module>
import fastloop
ImportError: No module named fastloop

    init.py should be __init__.py
