Chippy (Credited as Shilpa in Kannada films) is an actress in the South Indian film industry and works primarily in Malayalam and Kannada films. She won Filmfare Award for Best Actress - Kannada & Karnataka State Film Award for Best Actress for her performance in Janumada Jodi (1996).[1]
She has acted in many Kannada superhit films such as Bhoomi Thayiya Chochchala Maga (1998), Mungarina Minchu (1997) and Idhu Entha Premavayya (1999). Shilpa and Ramesh Aravind pair is considered as the one of the best onscreen pair in Kannada cinema. She also acted in several Malayalam TV series including Sthreejanmam, Sthree oru Santhwanam, Aakashadoothu.

Career


Chippy made her film debut with the Bharathan directorial Padheyam in 1993, co-starring Mammootty. She has acted in several Malayalam films in supporting roles and a few lead roles. Later she also acted in the 1996 Kannada blockbuster film, Janumada Jodi, which broke many records in the Kannada film industry and screened successfully for 500 days. She received the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Actress award from the Karnataka government for her role portrayal in the same film establishing herself as a lead actress in Kannada Cinema. Post marriage she shifted her focus into Malayalam television serials. She is well known for her role Mayamma in Sthreejanam. Later went on to act in several serials under her production house (avanthika creations).
She has received many accolades for her performance in various popular Malayalam soap operas and is one of the finest female actress on Malayalam serial industry. She has acted in some advertisements also. Now she is producing and acting in Vanambadi and Mouna Ragam (TV series).[2]



Personal life


Chippy was born to Shaji and Thankam at Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Chippy has a sister, Drishya.[3] She completed her schooling from Nirmala Bhavan Trivandrum. She is married to M.Renjith on 24 May 2001. The couple have a daughter Avantika who is doing her schooling in Lecole Chempaka,Trivandrum. Chippy and her husband now produce Malayalam films under the banner Rejaputhra Visual Media.
