IziModal not opening in Java/Springboot app when in two different files

0

I am using the iziModal to have a modal open when page loads, and that is working. On the same page, I want to use iziModal again as a second modal that opens when a button is clicked. It was working before, but I had to refactor the code and put this second modal in a separate file than where the button to trigger it is.
Any idea why it wont open when button is in one file and modal is in another file?

IziModal Code in document.html file:

<head>
<script>
$('document').ready(function(){
$('#docModal').iziModal({
headerColor: '#337ab7',
width: '50%',
overlayColor: 'rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.5)',
fullscreen: true,
transitionIn: 'fadeInUp',
transitionOut: 'fadeOutDown'
});
$('#uploadDoc').on('click', '.trigger', function (event) {
event.preventDefault()
$('#docModal').iziModal('open')
})
});
</script>

</head>
<body>

<!--UploadDocuments Modal -->
<div id="docModal" class="modal fade" data-izimodal-title="Add Document">
<div class="row" style="padding:0 25px;">
<div class="tabbable-panel">
<div class="tabbable-line">
<ul class="nav nav-tabs">
<li class="active">
<a href="#" data-toggle="tab">Required Documentation</a>
</li>.......

Here is the button on my direct.html form that should trigger this:

 <td class="text-right"><a id="uploadDoc" th:value="${stat.index}" class="trigger btn btn-docModal" ><span class="fa fa-upload"></span></a></td>
