How to display link content instead of link while sharing on Messenger?
My app is using Facebook Android SDK to share an image on Messenger. The image is only available as an url. Here's the code:
MessageDialog dialog = new MessageDialog(this);
ShareLinkContent content =
new ShareLinkContent.Builder()
.setContentUrl(Uri.parse("https://images.pexels.com/photos/414612/pexels-photo-414612.jpeg?cs=srgb&dl=beautiful-beauty-blue-414612.jpg"))
.build();
if (dialog.canShow(content)) {
dialog.show(this, content);
}
Everything works fine, but what I end up sharing is some kind of a link template. It has 2 problems: the image is resized, and there is a visible url string. Here is a screenshot with current result above, and desired result below. Desired result was achieved within Messenger app, by pasting and deleting image url.

What I've tried:
- Playing with ShareLink and ShareLinkContent attibutes. .setQuote doesn't work, while .setTitle and .setDescription are both deprecated.
- Changing ShareLinkContent to SharePhotoContent. SharePhotoContent doesn't work with urls, it requires a bitmap image. I could possibly download the image and then share it, but that gets rid of linking-to-original behaviour, which I'd like to keep.
- I've considered using the Facebook Media Template, which would give me more control over display style, but it requires me to first upload media to FB, and only then provide the link. It would also link to a newly created post, instead if the original site.
