Autobots

The Autobots (also known as Cybertrons in Japan) are the heroes in the Transformers toyline and related spin-off comics and cartoons. Their main leader is Optimus Prime, but other "Primes" have also commanded the Autobots such as Rodimus Prime. They are constantly at war with the Decepticons. In the U.S. cartoon line, the Autobots were the descendants of a line of robots created as consumer goods by the Quintessons; the Decepticons, are descended instead from robots designed as military hardware.

Other terms for the Autobots are Autorobots (in Italy), Autoboterna (in Sweden), Kibery (in Ukraine), and Robotrikim (in Israel).

Orion Pax/Optimus Prime
1984 Freightliner Semi

More Than Meets the Eye (Part 1)

The Rebirth (Part 3)

Peter Cullen and Laurie Faso (as Orion Pax)
Alive (Dead in Headmasters) (Alive in Masterforce)
Optimus Prime is the strongest and most courageous of all Autobots, he is also their leader. Feels his role is the protection of all life, including Earth-life. Fights unceasingly to defeat the Decepticons. Splits into three autonomous modules: 1) Optimus Prime... the brain center known as the Commander 2) Roller, the Autobot scout car... a spy who operates up to 1200 miles away; and 3) Autobot Headquarters... the combat deck equipped with a versatile mechanic/artillery robot. Injury to one module is felt by the other two. He has been killed and revived numerous times throughout the franchise. Many have remarked that if he was more ruthless, he would be a better military leader. But if he was more ruthless, he wouldn't be Optimus Prime.

Bumblebee
1979 VW Beetle

More Than Meets the Eye (Part 1)
Was rebuilt into Goldbug in The Return of Optimus Prime, Part 2 and last appeared in The Rebirth Part 3 (as an animation error.)

Dan Gilvezan
Reformed as Goldbug
Small, eager, and brave, Bumblebee acts as a messenger, scout, and spy. Due to his small size, he dares to go where others cannot and will not. He idolizes the bigger Autobots, especially Optimus Prime and Prowl, and strives to be accepted. He is the most energy efficient and has the best vision of all the Autobots. He can go underwater for reconnaissance and salvage missions. Although physically the weakest Autobot, his stealth more than compensates for this inadequacy. This battle-tested robot was the first autobot to forge an alliance with the humans. He is a very close ally to human Spike Witwicky, Often seen as an underdog and not the biggest bot he has more courage than any soldier from Cybertron. As the most trusted lieutenant of Optimus Prime, he will do whatever it takes to protect earth and its people.

Cliffjumper
1979 Porsche 924

More Than Meets the Eye (Part 1)

Five Faces of Darkness (Part 1) in a flashback from The Transformers: The Movie, (Casey Kasem left the show during season 3 due to objection to the portrayal of Arab characters as stereotypical villains.)

Casey Kasem and Don Messick (The Immobilizer)
Alive
"Let me at 'em" is Cliffjumper's motto. His eagerness and daring have no equal. He is driven by a desire to win the battle against the Decepticons. Finds Earth terrain a hindrance. One of the fastest Autobots, and often uses his speed to draw fire away from others. Shoots "glass gas" which makes metal as brittle as glass. His recklessness often leads to actual blow-outs and situations too dangerous for him to handle.

Wheeljack
1977 Lancia Stratos Turbo

More Than Meets the Eye (Part 1)
Found dead by Arcee in The Transformers: The Movie

Christopher Collins
Dead (Alive in Victory)
Wheeljack is the mad scientist of the Autobots. Always inventing new weapons and gadgets. Most adept at driving while in car mode. Likes to show off his stunts. Flying range of 800 miles using solid-fuel rockets in arms. Shoots magnetic inducer, shrapnel-needle and gyro-inhibitor shells from his shoulder cannons. He is his own worst enemy. Often injured while experimenting with new weapons.

Prowl
1979 Nissan 280ZX Police Car

More Than Meets the Eye (Part 1)
Killed by Scavenger in The Transformers: The Movie (His appearance in Headmasters could be considered an animation error).

Michael Bell
Dead
Prowl will keep at a task for as long as it takes. Strives to find reason and logic in everything. A listener, not a talker. Has most sophisticated logic center of all Autobots. Able to analyze and advise on complex combat situations almost instantaneously. Fires wire-guided incendiary missiles and high-corrosive acid pellets. The unexpected can often scramble his circuits.

Jazz
1976 Porsche 935

More Than Meets the Eye (Part 1)

Call of the Primitives

Scatman Crothers and Wally Burr (Kremzeek!)
Alive, (later appeared in Transformers headmasters)
Jazz loves Earth culture. Always looking to learn more. His knowledge of Earth makes him the indispensable right-hand man to Optimus Prime. Takes most dangerous missions. Very cool, very stylish, very competent. Equipped with photon rifle, flamethrower, full-spectrum beacon, 180db stereo speakers. Creates dazzling, disorienting sound and light shows. Versatile, clever, daring, but prone to be distracted.

Sideswipe
1974 Lamborghini Countach LP500S
Appears in More Than Meets the Eye (Part 1). First speaks in More Than Meets the Eye (Part 2).

Masquerade

Michael Bell
Alive (later appears in headmasters)
Sideswipe is nearly the equal of his twin brother, Sunstreaker, in the combat arts, but less cold-blooded. Relishes a fight to the finish with an opponent. Uses underhanded tactics when absolutely necessary. Arms act as powerful pile drivers. Flies for up to 2 minutes with rocket backpack. Fires flares visible for 18 miles. Rash actions often lead to injuries to himself. Takes them all in stride.

Ratchet
1979 Nissan Onebox Vanette Ambulance

More Than Meets the Eye (Part 1)
Killed by Megatron in gun mode, held by Starscream, in The Transformers: The Movie.

Don Messick and Wally Burr (Masquerade)
Dead
Ratchet was the best tool-and-die man on Cybertron. In his workbay on Earth he can make anything from a pin to a missile. Repairs injured Autobots, given the right parts. Likes to party, give backtalk, but does any job as well as anyone. Has laser scalpels, arc-welders, electron microscopes, circuit sensors, fluid dispensers at his disposal. Sometimes his having a good time interferes with his effectiveness.

Ironhide
1979 Nissan Onebox Vanette Van

More Than Meets the Eye (Part 1)

The Transformers: The Movie (Killed by Megatron offscreen with a point-blank blast to the head from his fusion cannon)

Peter Cullen
Dead
"Go chew on a microchip," is Ironhide's slogan. Prefers action to words. Oldest, toughest, most battle-tested Autobot. Bodyguard to Optimus Prime. In charge of guarding anything of importance. Gruff, but kind. Trithyllium-steel skin makes him nearly invulnerable to attack. Shoots variety of liquids from supercooled nitrogen to superheated lead. Has sonar, radar, radiowave detector. Slowest and most resilient of the group.

Hot Rod / Rodimus Prime

Hot Rod Cybertronian sports car Rodimus Prime Cybertronian RV

Transformers: The Movie
Last appeared as Rodimus Prime in The Return of Optimus Prime (Part 2) and last appeared as Hot Rod in The Rebirth (Part 3)

Dick Gautier (TV series), Judd Nelson (movie) and Ted Schwartz (Rodimus Prime, Five Faces of Darkness)
Alive
Hot Rod is an all-American-boy Autobot. He is a typical adolescent who dreams of being heroic and important. He tends to follow rules too closely. Although he means well, Hot Rod's impulsive actions often get him into trouble. He carries two photon lasers that temporarily electromagnetize an enemy robot's microcircuits. Speed: 120 mph. Range: 4 miles. He can be hotheaded, but he is always a well meaning, admirable lad and a brave and honorable fighter. As Rodimus Prime, he is the vanguard for the Autobot ranks. Possesses acute military prowess. Speaks with the savvy of seasoned veteran. Expert tactician with exceptional maneuverability in battle. Can be hot-headed at times. Has a tendency to act first and ask questions later. In robot mode, carries a photon eliminator that shoots high voltage electricity. Range: 500 miles. Speed: 200 mph. Sole purpose is to protect all life. His only weakness is his compassion for other living creatures. As a Targetmaster, Hot Rod often goes off on his own adventure with Firebolt, his electrostatic discharger rifle, who led a quiet scholarly life as Nebulan's top atomic physics scientist until he became the thrill-seeking Hot Rod's partner, Firebolt is excited, but nervous, about the prospect.

Springer
Cybertronian Helicopter/Cybertronian Armored Car

The Transformers: The Movie

The Burden Hardest to Bear

Neil Ross
Alive
A wise-cracking, sharp witted adventurer. Powerful Autobot fighter with a massive physique and an easy-going manner. Possesses incredible "springing" power in his legs. Travels long distances with pogo-like motion. In robot mode, carries a laser that produces giant wind tunnels. Helicopter blade transforms into a light saber that can cut through concrete. Optimistic and good humored.

Kup
Cybertronian Pickup Truck

The Transformers: The Movie

The Rebirth (Part 3)

Lionel Stander (movie) and John Stephenson (TV series)
Alive
Kup is an old veteran warhorse with a thousand tall tales from his ten thousand adventures. He has a motto or word of advice for any situation and he is as brave and loyal as they come. In robot mode, he carries an old-style musket laser that shoots short bursts of metal-corrosive hydrochloric acid. Range: 5 miles. Speed: 100 mph. Kup sees himself as a seasoned campaigner with more knowledge and experience to share. Other Autobots arent always receptive to his advice. As a Targetmaster, he is binary-bonded to Recoil, an old style musket laser and former all-world prismaball player.

Ultra Magnus
1985 Mack Car Carrier

Scramble City

The Rebirth (Part 3)

Robert Stack (film) and Jack Angel (TV series)
Alive (Dead in Headmasters)
Ultra Magnus is all soldier. Most comfortable when carrying out Optimus Prime is orders. Possesses magnificent fighting skills, courage, and a gift for battlefield improvisation. Uncomfortable in the mantle of leadership, but presents strong profile as a commander. Carries missile launchers capable of hitting a target 30 miles away. Resolute, fair, and courageous beyond reproach. Ever ready to sacrifice himself for the good of men and mission.

Blurr
Cybertronian Hover Car

The Transformers: The Movie

The Rebirth (Part 3)

John Moschitta, Jr.
Alive
Blurr is the fastest Autobot on land. He is a close descendant to a thoroughbred Cybertronic race horse, and a superior messenger. He can quickly whisk information from one place to another. In robot mode, he carries an electro-laser that reverses the polarity of an enemy robot's microcircuts and leaves them motionless. Range: 10 miles. In vehicular mode, he can travel faster than the speed of sound, leaving a blurred image in his trail. As a Targetmaster, he is paired with Haywire, excitable Nebulan teenager whose impulsiveness makes him a chancy electro-laser cannon, at best.

Arcee
Cybertronian Convertible

The Transformers: The Movie

The Rebirth (Part 3)

Susan Blu
Alive

Arcee is the only female Autobot to appear on a regular basis. She was created in an effort by the film's producers to expand the market audience to include girls as well as to appear less sexist. Some have criticized the character for being overly stereotypically female due mainly to her need to protect Daniel Witwicky and act as a surrogate mother, but she is still shown to be a tough female warrior (i.e.: The Dweller in the Depths). She eventually becomes a Headmaster with Daniel (in an Exo-suit) forming her head. Although she has been paired with Springer (for most of Season 3), Chromedome (2 episodes of the second half of Headmasters) and Brainstorm (most of the second half of Headmasters), she seems to be more attached to Hot Rod/Rodimus Prime (in the Movie and Dark Awakening and the first half of Headmasters).

Wheelie
Cybertronian Car

The Transformers: The Movie

The Return of Optimus Prime (Part 2)

Frank Welker
Alive
Wheelie is the sole survivor from a party of intergalactic colonists who crash landed on Earth. He is a barbaric little savage who managed to stay alive by cunning, stealth, and fearlessness. Speaks in odd rhyming sentences and despises the Decepticons. Fights only when he is under attack and has to defend himself. Staunch friend to the Dinobots and a reliable ally for Hot Rod and Kup.

Hound
1943 Mitsubishi J59 Military Jeep

More Than Meets the Eye (Part 1)

Transformers: The Movie. Later appeared in Transformers: Headmasters.

Ken Sansom
Alive
Hound loves the natural wonders of Earth, prefers it to Cybertron. Brave, fearless, loyal. Secretly desires to be human. Uses turret gun as radar scope, infrared radiation collector. Tracks machines as well as humans. Hologram gun projects 3-dimensional grid laser-light topographical maps. Vulnerable to thermal and electromagnetic interference.

Mirage
1975 F-1 Ligier JS-11 Formula-1 racer

More Than Meets the Eye (Part 1)

Masquerade. Early script for Transformers: The Movie shows him being blown up by Megatron, but this didn't make the final cut.

Frank Welker
Alive
Mirage is not thrilled about being an Autobot freedom fighter. Prefers hunting turbofoxes on Cybertron with his high-priced friends. Effective fighter, more effective intelligence gatherer. Electro-disrupter can cast illusions altering his physical placement and appearance for up to 6 minutes. Expert marksman with armor-piercing rocket-dart hunting rifle. Unsure of Autobot cause... cannot be fully trusted.

Trailbreaker
1985 Toyota 4WD Hilux
Appears in More Than Meets the Eye (Part 1). First speaks in More Than Meets the Eye (Part 2).

Cosmic Rust. Early script for Transformers: The Movie shows his dead body as the Decepticons retreated from Autobot City, but this didn't make the final cut.

Frank Welker
Alive
Trailbreaker makes light of any situation, no matter how serious. Practical joker and cheerleader, but considers himself a liability to Autobots since he consumes the most fuel. Lacks self-esteem and often asks to be left behind. Projects nearly impenetrable invisible force-field. Can jam radio transmissions. Very slow. Often mopes about his handicaps, but his bravery and defensive prowess is unquestioned.

Sunstreaker
1974 Super-Tuned Lamborghini Countach LP500S
Appears in More Than Meets the Eye (Part 1). First speaks in More Than Meets the Eye (Part 2).

The Transformers: The Movie. Later appeared in Transformers: Headmasters (In Japan).

Corey Burton
Alive
The complete egotist, Sunstreaker thinks he is the most beautiful thing on Earth. Loves his sleek styling, contemptuous of other Autobot race cars. Fires laser-guided ground-to-air rockets and high energy electron pulses at 300 bursts/sec. Tough polymer-steel skin resists artillery. Not a team player. Can be baited into dangerous situations, but is a very calm, competent and ruthless war machine.
  • Trivia: In The TF Movie, Sunstreaker arrived to Autobot City on Earth on the second shuttle with Optimus Prime and the Dinobots. However, due to an animation error, he is shown for a few frames with Kup/Hound/Huffer/Bluestreak at the Lookout Mountain barricades the day before when the first shuttle was arriving.

Bluestreak
1980 Nissan 280ZX
Appears in More Than Meets the Eye (Part 1). First speaks in More Than Meets the Eye (Part 3).
He was last seen helping Kup put up the barricades in "The Transformers: The Movie". It's unknown whether or not he made it back to Autobot City in time.

Casey Kasem
Alive
Bluestreak often talks incessantly and inanely. Lightens the situation for all Autobots with his good-natured manner. Despite formidable weaponry and blazing speed, he hates war. Haunted by memory of Decepticons destroying his home-city. Fires bombs up to 8.3 miles and lightning-like 80,000 volt beam up to 12 miles of limited accuracy. Often inhibited by his disdain for combat. Bluestreak takes the form of a modified 1980 Nissan 280ZX, the year can be identified by the use of a T-bar roof and he is Naturally Aspirated because of the design of his wheels.

Tracks
1982 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray
Appears in Dinobot Island (Part 1). First speaks in Dinobot Island (Part 2).

"Scramble City". Survived battle of Autobot City in "The Transformers: The Movie" but did not make final cut.

Michael McConnohie
Unknown
Called "lousy Earth-lover" by some fellow Autobots because he prefers sleek Earth car form to original robot form. Thinks they're jealous of his good looks but they feel struggle against Decepticons should be his top concern. As car goes 280 mph... uses wings under rear fenders for sub-sonic flight. As car or robot uses launcher to fire heat-seeking incendiary missiles 60 miles. Has blinding black beam gun.

Grapple
1951 Mitsubishi Fuso Crane Truck
Appears in Dinobot Island (Part 1). First speaks in The Master Builder.
Seen briefly in The Transformers: The Movie

Peter Renaday
Unknown
On Cybertron his buildings are considered works of art... On Earth his ideas limited by war. Takes pride in his work, prone to severe depression if they're destroyed in battle. As crane can lift up to 35-ton object and position it with precision and grace. As robot has high-temperature arc-welder rifle... can launch rockets 4.5 miles from wrist sockets. Prone to breakdown in vehicle mode.

Red Alert

Lamborghini Countach LP500S

Dinobot Island (Part 1)

The Revenge of Bruticus. Storyboards for Transformers: The Movie show Red Alert killed by the Constructicons after helping Sideswipe, Tracks, and Ultra Magnus stop Devastator. The scene was cut out of the Battle of Autobot City. But appeared later in Victory.

Michael Chain
Unknown
Paranoia makes him good at his job... nothing escapes his notice, no matter how small. When his sensors are activated, thinks trouble is coming. Edgy... unpopular with comrades, but appreciated. Can trigger alarms in other Autobots. Excellent sensory perception. Fast in vehicular mode. Carries 25-mile range rocket launcher and particle beam rifle. Prone to rash judgements which can lead to injury to himself and comrades.

Smokescreen

Datsun 280ZX Turbo
Appears in Dinobot Island (Part 1). First speaks in The Master Builder.

Scramble City. In the original Storyboards for Transformers: The Movie, it was Smokescreen who lay dead, rather than Wheeljack (Though Wheeljack's corpse is painted with Smokescreen's color scheme when Springer enters the room before the shot changes to focus on Arcee moving Windcharger's body). Later seen in Transformers: Headmasters (in Japan)

Jack Angel
Alive
Whether engaged in raging battle or friendly conversation, an ulterior purpose usually exists. Job is to lead enemy astray. Sneaky, but charming and affable... considered most devious yet most trusted of Autobots. In car mode, emits thick smoke from tailpipe... attracts to metal. In robot mode, shoots missiles which wreak havoc on enemy aircraft radar and guidance systems... electro-disrupter rifle shorts out electrical targets.

Hoist
1984 Toyota 4WD Hilux Tow Truck

Dinobot Island Part 1

Scramble City

Michael Chain
Unknown
"No exceptions!" – All Autobots must submit to his maintenance schedule... knows they must operate at peak efficiency in battle. Jovial, enjoys job and is good at it – will find any problem, from engine overhaul to smallest leaky gasket. As tow truck, hauls 40,000 lbs. As robot, very strong... launches heat-seeking missiles from wrist sockets. Full spectrum multi-sensor behind his head determines an object's composition, density, tensile strength, energy properties.

Inferno
1955 Mitsubishi Fuso Fire Truck

Dinobots Island Part 1
Scramble City, but was credited in "The Transformers: The Movie"

Walker Edmiston
Unknown
"The hotter things get, the better I like it!"... not only fires, but battle too. Often distracted from performing his job to engage in combat. Can do anything Earth fire trucks can in vehicular mode. Great strength... ceramic-plated armored skin can take up to 8000 degrees Celsius. Extinguisher rifle shoots flame-suppressing foam and an energy damping beam to counter other beams. Forearms shoot missiles. Doesn't follow orders well, not very mobile as robot.

Skids
Honda City Turbo Mini-Van

Quest for Survival

Triple Takeover

Michael Chain (Quest for Survival) and Dan Gilvezan (Triple Takeover)
Unknown
A daydreamer... often bumps into things at 60 mph while pondering Earth life instead of a Decepticon attack. Considers Earth one vast lab for his research. His findings are often invaluable to fellow Autobots. Enormous memory storage capacity. Carries a liquid nitrogen rifle with 600 foot range. Twin electron blaster of 20,000 volts can short-circuit almost anything. At 560 mph can stop within 25 feet. Not very fast... often in danger due to daydreaming.

Appears in More Than Meets the Eye (Part 1). First speaks in S.O.S. Dinobots.
Appeared to be dead and found by Arcee in The Transformers: The Movie. But appeared in Call of the Primitives as a background character.

John Stephenson
Dead
Windcharger is the fastest Autobot over short distances. Good in situations requiring fast, decisive action. Enthusiastic but inpatient. Short attention span. Casts powerful magnetic fields which can attract or repel large metal objects. Smashes them at closer distances. These abilities use up tremendous energy. Often burns himself out due to carelessness.

Brawn
1969 Land Rover
Appears in More Than Meets the Eye (Part 1). First speaks in More Than Meets the Eye (Part 2).
Killed by Megatron in gun mode, held by Starscream, in Transformers: The Movie Appeared in Carnage in C-minor as an animation error.

Corey Burton
Dead
To Brawn, Earth is essentially a hostile environment – and he loves it. Strong, rugged, agile – the most macho of all Autobots. Delights in challenges. Sorry for those not as tough as himself. Second strongest Autobot – can lift 190,000 pounds and knock down a small building with one punch. High resistance to artillery fire. Vulnerable to attack by electromagnetic waves.

Huffer
Single Axle Cab-Over
Appears in More Than Meets the Eye (Part 1). First speaks in More Than Meets the Eye (Part 2).

The Transformers: The Movie. He was last seen helping Kup put up barricades in the film. He received offscreen damage and was mentioned dead by Daniel Witwicky in Dark Awakening.

John Stephenson
Dead
Huffer is cynical, hard-boiled and pessimistic. "He looks at the world through sludge-colored windshields." Will complain it cannot be built, then builds it anyway. Not too sociable, but absolutely reliable. Arm sensors can test materials for strength, heat resistance, elasticity, etc. Extremely strong. Superior mathematical and geometrical abilities. Often unhappy and homesick for Cybertron.

Gears
1952 4WD Off-Road Pickup Truck
Appears in More Than Meets the Eye (Part 1). First speaks in More Than Meets the Eye (Part 2).
"The Transformers: The Movie." It's likely he was killed when Unicron attacked Moonbase 1 since he wasn't seen on the shuttle that came to Earth.

Don Messick
Unknown
Gears is anti-social, a self-proclaimed misfit. Finds fault in everything and everyone. Acts this way to help cheer others up as they try to cheer him up. Tremendous strength and endurance. Totes heavy loads long distances. Launches to height of 20 miles, floats down on compressed air. Becomes an easy target due to limited maneuverability. Can detect infrared.

Junkyard also known as Junkheap is the public face of the Junkion commerce, and often sells used and refurbished components and items to other civilizations. Unlike most Junkions who are always quoting TV and media, and can be very hard to understand if you are not a Junkion, Junkyard usually speaks in plain English. Junkyard is also very good at identifying the needs of his customers, and is very good in business, and is a skilled technician, and does not like to fight in battle.

Scrapheap is a youthful and rebellious Junkion, whose average day consists of non-stop television marathons, rummaging through trash, and the occasional knock-down dragout motorcycle rally-slash slugfest. He often finds hidden treasures picking through the trash piles of refuse of his homeworld, but that's not what he wants to spend his life doing. He sees a career on his homeworld as an inventor as his ticket off his planet, and he is not above lying, stealing, and cheating to get what he needs to make it happen.

Nancy is a Junkion who appears to be the consort of the Junkion leader Wreck-Gar, and is the only known female Junkion. Nancy also seems to have some sort of relationship with Wreck-Gar as well, perhaps a romantic one. The only transformer with a human name, she spends countless hours watching TV, and like all Junkions, she can be blasted to pieces without taking any noticeable permanent damage, and is capable of repairing herself within seconds.

Wreck-Gar

Wreck-Gar is the name of two characters from the many Transformers continuities in the Transformers franchise.

Wreck-Gar is the idiosyncratic leader of the Junkions.[3]

For many years Wreck-Gar was the only Junkion character to have a toy until the e-hobby exclusive character Detritus was released in Japan.

Marvel Comics

While Wreck-Gar and the rest of the movie cast would not make any major appearances in the Marvel U.S. run of the Transformers comic, the Marvel UK version of the comic would make heavy use of Wreck-Gar and the movie cast in order to fill in the gaps between reprinted US material.

Wreck-Gar's first appearance came in the Fallen Angel arc, when he built the time machine enabling Rodimus Prime, Kup and Blurr to travel back to 1987 in pursuit of the former Decepticon leader Galvatron. Stealing away when the device was activated, Wreck-Gar found the remains of Bumblebee (obliterated by Death's Head, a bounty hunter from the future trying to claim a bounty on Galvatron) and rebuilt him into Goldbug. Subsequently taking part in a diversionary assault on Galvatron (and nearly getting scrapped for it), Wreck-Gar subsequently rebuilt Galvatron's time-jump mechanism to return all the time travellers to the future, bar Galvatron, who had modified the mechanism to stay behind.

Later, Wreck-Gar returned home to Junk only to discover it had been enslaved by Unicron. Attempting to stay behind, he was captured by Death's Head. It is learned Death's Head also been mentally enslaved by Unicron, whose head had survived after the climactic battle of The Transformers: The Movie. The bounty hunter managed to resist Unicron's control long enough to allow Wreck-Gar to escape, allowing him to go underground and plant a store of explosives. Unfortunately a badly timed assault by Rodimus Prime and the Dinobots caused a tremor which nearly buried Wreck-Gar. The Junkion leader was (somewhat unwillingly) freed by Death's Head and his store of explosives were detonated by the bounty hunter, seemingly destroying Unicron.

His next appearance was as a prisoner of the Quintessons, whose homeworld was dying due to the time rift caused by Galvatron, Cyclonus and Scourge staying in the past. He was nearly fed to a pack of Sharkticons, but was rescued at the last minute by Wheelie. The two unlikely allies then transmitted the Quintessons' plan for colonization throughout the galaxy, making the Quintessons' targets aware of their plans. He continued to appear in the alternate future stories of the UK comics.[4]

Animated series

Wreck-Gar is the leader of the Junkions, a group of Transformers usually allied with the Autobots and introduced in The Transformers: The Movie. Wreck-Gar is distinguishable from his fellows by his long moustache and goatee. In the movie, the voice for his character was provided by Eric Idle, of Monty Python fame. In the TV series, he is voiced by Tony Pope.

Wreck-Gar has a manner of speaking which causes him to talk using lingo and incongruous phrases from television commercials and programs (the way parrots sometimes do). Such phrases included "Don't look behind door number two, Monty. It's time to play 'End of the Line, My Valentine!' Ge-roni-do-ron-roni-MOOOOOOO!" His speech was also accented with television sound effects (beeps, static, clicks etc.). He was initially suspicious of the intentions of Ultra Magnus and company when they are first arrived on the Planet of Junk, where he led an attack on the Autobots. Wreck-Gar says "Stop thief" in reference to the Autobots, which suggests that he viewed their salvaging operation on the planet of Junk as theft. Fortunately Hot Rod pacified him with the universal greeting. Wreck-Gar pledged his support in destroying Unicron, offering the services of not only the Junkions but supplying a space craft to get to Cybertron. Despite the space craft being crushed and destroyed by Unicron, all aboard (which included not only Wreck-Gar but Perceptor and Ultra Magnus) apparently survived. This may be thanks to the Junkions' extraordinary repair capabilities.[5]

After his alliance with the Autobots, he filled in for the deceased Ratchet as the Autobots' main surgeon, his people's unique affinity for repair (as seen by their reassembly and reactivation of Ultra Magnus after he was destroyed by the Decepticons) making him quite advantageous in the Autobots' war against the Decepticons.

While it seems Wreck-Gar indeed maintained his post as Junkion leader, he was a frequent guest star on the show and was often depicted as if he were a full resident of Cybertron.

He first made his television debut in Five Faces of Darkness when he saved Rodimus Prime, Ultra Magnus, Kup, Spike, Arcee, Grimlock, and the Aerialbots from the planet Goo. In addition, he was able to reconstitute Springer (much like he did Ultra Magnus) after he had been destroyed by a waste disposal unit. It was suggested in the episode that Goo was a colony of Junkion.

Wreck-Gar would also be among the captives in The Killing Jar. The Quintessons were most alarmed by him as a captive since he acted totally opposite of his assumed programming. The Quintessons were convinced that a sterile environment would render him inert. Instead Wreck-Gar proceeded to trash the room, making it into a facsimile of Junkion.

Wreck-Gar would later appear in Forever Is a Long Time Coming, where he, Blurr, and Blaster aid a young Alpha Trion in the past.

His signature episode, however, would be the first part of a series of episodes dealing with the Quintesson Journal. The episode was titled The Big Broadcast of 2006. The basic plotline involved a Quintesson signal beamed down into Junkion television sets. The signal was subliminal in nature, and made the Junkions distrust all foreign visitors, the Autobots included. Amidst the chaos, the Quintessons attempted to retake their journal, which contained a record of their more dubious dealings between planets. Somehow, though, the signal became scrambled and was sent out throughout the Universe, causing an intergalactic war. The episode also featured Wreck-Gar saying "Yo, Joe!" while charging into battle.

Aside from being a major plot point in the third season, the episode was reprinted verbatim in the pages of Marvel Comics. Much like the film adaptation, it was out of continuity with the title's ongoing story.

Wreck-Gar made his final appearance in The Return of Optimus Prime part 1. Rodimus Prime brought the deceased body of Optimus Prime to Wreck-Gar, hoping that the Junkions could repair him. Wreck-Gar stated he was unable to do so (in his classic TV talking way, quoting Star Trek: "I'm a doctor, not a forklift. His engines, they cannot take the strain! He's dead, Jim."). He was last seen being infected by Ultra Magnus and in turn infecting Rodimus Prime, saying "Hey, I'm a pepper, would you like to be a pepper, too?". Since he was not shown as being injured or killed, his status and whereabouts at the end of the series remain unknown.

Wreck-Gar would continue to appear in the Japanese cartoon based on the Headmasters. He appeared in the first episode among others, however no reference is made to Wreck-Gar being part of the Junkion tribe. It is unknown, in the Japanese continuity whether Junkion still exists or whether or not Wreck-Gar is still its leader.

Books

Wreck-Gar appeared in the Marvel Books 1986 story and coloring book The Invasion of the Decepticon Camp by Pat Brigandi.[6]

Dreamwave Productions

Wreck-Gar also appeared in Dreamwave's take on the G1 comics. When a badly-damaged Megatron was ejected into space by the ever-treacherous Starscream after a battle with Shockwave, Wreck-Gar recovered his body drifting in space. Taking him to Junk and repairing him, Megatron tricked Wreck-Gar into repairing some of the Seeker clones, intending to use them as the beginnings of an army, while telling Wreck-Gar that he was really using them to battle injustice throughout the galaxy. When the Junkion leader discovered the truth, Megatron killed him.

Junkions

A group of Transformers known as Junkions inhabit the Planet of Junk. The planet is within close proximity to the Earth; close enough to receive television broadcasts with only a few decades of lag. According to the Quintessons' preliminary analysis, "the primitive television transmissions from Earth constitute their entire culture."(The Big Broadcast of 2006) As a result, they only speak in phrases from commercials and TV shows. Given this, Junkions can be somewhat hard to understand; they tend to talk in somewhat of a mish-mash of catch phrases and sound bites (referred to in the film as "talk[ing] TV").

Junkions are regarded by many other races as being slightly to extremely insane, depending on the race. They also have a rather extreme xenophobic streak due to their isolation on Junk, and are naturally put off by and wary of strangers, even going so far as to assault the Autobots when they first crash-landed on their planet. Apparently the only way to gain the trust and friendship of the Junkions is to announce the universal greeting (the proper spelling of which has never been officially confirmed).

After the initial battle, the Junkions become allies of the Autobots. Oddly, their eyes are red, which is usually associated with Decepticons in the cartoon. Their only exhibited alternate mode is a motorcycle; when they attack, they attack en masse, organized into pairs with one in motorcycle mode and the other riding in robot mode to provide firepower. Junkions are superb technicians, capable of assembling all manner of functional machinery from junk. They also seem to have an affinity with mechanical garbage, allowing them to manipulate it and move it telekinetically.[when?]
These two abilities combine to make Junkions very durable; Junkions are built out of scrap and are naturally very ramshackle, but if their parts are scattered then they can reassemble themselves almost instantly, repairing and reattaching broken off parts and drawing replacement parts from nearby sources (other disabled Junkions, slain Transformers, junkyards, etc.). As Springer says: "It's not hard to knock 'em down, it's getting 'em to stay down that's the trick!". On the Planet of Junk, they are nearly invincible.

The only notable Junkion is their leader, Wreck-Gar. His voice is provided by Eric Idle in the movie and Tony Pope in the television series. The rest of the Junkions' voices were provided by Frank Welker. Online retailer e-Hobby recolored the toy for the Autobot Hound in a primarily light brown/sand colored deco into the Junkion mercenary, Detritus, who, unlike the other natives of his homeworld, is not aligned to either the Autobot or Decepticon factions. However, this character never appeared in the animated series. The background soundtrack to the battle on the Planet of Junk is "Weird Al" Yankovic's "Dare to Be Stupid", which, similar to Junkion speech, contains many pop-culture catchphrases.

Toys

  • Generation 1 Wreck-Gar (1986)

In the initial toy commercial for Wreck-Gar, he was depicted fighting Autobot Triple Changer Springer, implying he was allied with the Decepticons.

  • Reveal the Shield Deluxe Wreck-Gar (2011)

In 2010, it was revealed in Walmart's database that a new Wreck-Gar figure will be released.[7] An official picture of his robot mode was featured on the cover of issue #35 (Oct/Nov 2010) of the Transformers Collectors' Club magazine. Much like the original G1 toy, this figure transforms into a motorcycle, but features an asymmetrical limb design.[8][9][10][11]

The mold for this figure is also used for Generations Junkheap.

Wreck-Gar appears in the Transformers Animated series, having the unique characteristic of taking any suggestion or insult literally, causing humorous chaos as a result.[13]

Though modeled after the G1 version, Wreck Gar's design was influenced by his voice actor "Weird Al" Yankovic, whose 1986 Transformers movie soundtrack song "Dare to Be Stupid" was among the many movie references used in Wreck-Gar's debut. This is shown in such instances as throwing his original motorcycle form from the movie at Bumblebee (after being told to "Give them everything you've got!" by the Angry Archer) and saying the universal greeting "Ba-weep-graghna-weep-nini-bong" to Lugnut. In reference to the usage of Yankovic's song in the film, after Ratchet exclaims that even he can't be stupid enough to destroy the city, Wreck-Gar exclaims, "I am Wreck-Gar, I dare to be stupid!"

Animated series

Wreck-Gar first appeared in "Garbage In, Garbage Out" where he is created from a pile of junk infused with energy from a shard of the Allspark. Initially he did not know what he was, making his way to the police on the assumption that they could help him find out, only to unknowingly save the Angry Archer from them. Wreck-Gar was given his name by the Angry Archer, which is a shortened form of "Worthless WRECK" and "walking pile of GARbage", names Detroit citizens yelled at him while he wandered on the city streets. Because he takes anything said to him literally, Wreck-Gar alternated from the Angry Archer's accomplice to Autobot, then to a garbage dispenser after listening to Ratchet's harsh words. Through Lugnut, Wreck-Gar momentarily became a Decepticon. After spilling an Allspark-enhanced swarm of nanobots he collected while aiding the Angry Archer, it only took Ratchet's apology and his telling Wreck-Gar to think for himself to make the confused Transformer choose to be an Autobot hero, sacrificing himself to ultimately save Detroit from the destructive nanobots. In doing so he was thought lost in the Detroit River, as Ratchet could only fish out random junk. Though believed gone, Wreck-Gar was actually online, half-buried at the bottom of the river, cheerfully declaring himself a hero to passing fish (and occasionally requesting a helping hand or fin).

He later makes his return in the "Human Error Part 2," now missing his Autobot insignia, helping Sari fight Soundwave to free the Autobots from his control. During the battle against Soundwave, Wreck-Gar is apparently immune to Ratbat's mind-controlling riff, likely due to his addled mental state, and attempts to counter the noise by playing an accordion (a reference to his voice actor, "Weird Al" Yankovic's, affinity for Polka music and his "Polka Power" music videos). In the fight's aftermath, Wreck-Gar helps in cleaning the mess from the fight before walking off, distributing garbage to "all the good children" in the manner of Santa Claus.

After the end of the series, it was announced at BotCon 2009 that Wreck-Gar now works for Detroit sanitation.

Wreck-Gar hails from the planet Junkion. He is an amalgam of his previous namesakes.

Novels

Wreck-Gar appears in the novel Transformers: Exiles, and later reappears in Transformers: Retribution. He is the leader of the Junkions and turns into a trash compactor, and like most of his race is dedicated to the reclamation of discarded material. After witnessing Optimus Prime's use of the Matrix of Leadership, he forms an uneasy alliance with the Autobots, which ends when the Decepticons arrive. Wreck-Gar and several Junkions are taken captive by the pirate Star Seekers, who force them to build a Space Bridge into their flagship. Wreck-Gar remains their prisoner for some time, and is even used as bait to lure Megatron and the Decepticons into an ambush. However, he manages to escape and return to Junkion, thought not without providing fellow escapee Axer with information on how to track Optimus Prime through the Matrix of Leadership.

Exiled from Cybertron, they later forged an alliance with Optimus' disgraced brother Ultra Magnus.

Decepticons

The Decepticons (known as Destrons or on occasion Deathtrons in Japan) are the enemies of the Autobots, and the villains in the fictional universe of the movie and cartoon Transformers toyline and related spin-off comics and cartoons. Their best known leader is Megatron.

Other terms for the Decepticons are Décepticans (in France), Destructors (in Italy), Bedragarna (in Sweden), Bedragoner (in Denmark) and Shakranikim (in Israel).

Believes Decepticons should rely more on guile and speed rather than brute force to defeat Autobots. Fastest flyer of group, can reach Mach 2.8 and an altitude of 52 miles. Shoots cluster bombs and null-rays which disrupts the flow of electricity. Very good at what he does, but sometimes overrates himself.
Thundercracker

Thundercracker is contemptuous of anything that cannot fly. Not totally convinced of the Decepticons' cause, but they've persuaded him to continue battling the Autobots. Flies at speeds up to 1500 mph... produces controlled, deafening sonic booms – can be heard for 200 miles. Equipped with powerful drone rockets and incendiary guns. Doubts about his cause sometimes impedes his effectiveness.

Leonard Nimoy (movie) and Frank Welker (TV series)
Alive (Later killed in Headmasters)
Galvatron is a cold-hearted robotic supervillain. Revealed to be Megatron reformatted by Unicron because his body was badly damaged during his last fight with Optimus Prime at Autobot City. Determined to lead the Decepticons and destroy Cybertron since the Autobots took it back from the Decepticons, forcing them to abandon their Earth base and retreat to the planet Charr, which would result in disposing of Megatron's dream of reviving Cybertron. Possesses enough strength to pulverize an Autobot into scrap metal. Unconquerable. Arrogant and compassionless. Plots against his allies, thus weakening his position. In robot mode, he carries a fission laser cannon that emits chemically-produced, direct-current electricity.

Doctor Fujiyama, who reportedly is a man of some renown in the scientific world, built a ninja robot. Her name was Nightbird, and her purpose was to benefit mankind. However, the Decepticons stole her and reprogrammed her to be evil, so he locked her away for humanity's protection.

Shawn Berger

Megatron Master Plan (Part 1)

Megatron Master Plan (Part 2)

Ed Gilbert
Shawn Berger is a very rich, grandiloquent man who owns a helicopter, a TV network, a personal army (with tanks), and at least one private spacecraft. But what he really wants is to be Mayor of Central City. And he will sell humanity out to Megatron for it where he helped in discrediting the Autobots. After being double-crossed by Megatron, Berger started helping Spike and the other friends of the Autobots. But they all were enslaved nonetheless, and he found himself hated at every turn. When the Autobots eventually returned and chased the Decepticons off, Berger begged forgiveness. He promised he would disband his personal army, but Sparkplug pointed out that his soldiers had already quit when they realized he was a traitor to humanity. "You are going to face justice," Prime told him, "and may it be kinder to you than it was to us." Shawn Berger's fate is unknown.

In Binaltech, a "Shawn Berger Jr." is a member of the Concurrence where he helped fund the creation of the Decepticon Binaltechs. It was not confirmed if he was the son of Shawn Berger or is the full name of Shawn Berger.

Prince Jumal, also known as Hassan, is the ruler of an unspecified Middle Eastern nation on Earth. In his spare time, he likes tinkering with old cars.
El Presidente

B.O.T

B.O.T, only appearance
None
El Presidente, one assumes, either is or was the president of a nation-state on the planet Earth. The latter seems more likely, given that as of the mid-1980s he was known to be operating out of a ship as an international arms dealer. He presumably shops for clothes with Abdul Fakkadi.
Abdul Fakkadi

Five Faces of Darkness (Part 1)

Thief in the Night

Philip L. Clarke
Abdul Fakkadi (also spelled Faghadi) is the self-professed Supreme Military Commander, President for Life, and King of Kings of the Socialist Democratic Federated Republic of Carbombya. One gets the feeling that if you were to inform him that, by definition, a republic cannot have a king (much less a "King of Kings"), his likely response would be to stare blankly for a long moment, and then order your immediate beheading. None too bright and none too stable, Fakkadi is concerned primarily with the accumulation of wealth and keeping "fanatics" and "imperialists" away from his homeland's shores. He is not averse to making deals with Decepticons to help further these goals. Fakkadi's character was quite controversial, and in fact the stereotypical "evil Arab" portrayal prompted actor Casey Kasem's deparutre from the series.
Mr. Robbins

B.O.T

B.O.T

Dan Gilvezan
Mr. Robbins is a science teacher at Benjamin Franklin Pierce High School. Unfortunately, he has Roland and Martin as students, which makes his classes significantly more dangerous than average.

Elise Presser

B.O.T

B.O.T, only appearance

Samantha Newark
Elise Presser is one of a trio of school students at Benjamin Franklin Pierce High School who built B.O.T. as part of a science project. Elise is a nerd and more concerned about obeying rules than her classmates. Given they accidentally built a destructive robot powered by Brawl's personality component, she will probably continue to err on the side of caution.

Astoria Carlton-Ritz

The Girl Who Loved Powerglide

The Girl Who Loved Powerglide, only appearance

Linda Gary
After the death of her father, Astoria Carlton-Ritz inherited his vast fortune as well as his company, Hybrid Technologies. Spoiled rotten, Astoria is mostly a figurehead with little control over the company's goings-on. Instead, she spends most of her time throwing herself lavish parties and wondering why nobody wants to be her friend. She has the bizarre ability to jinx any mechanical device just by coming into contact with it, which is just one more reason why she keeps away from her father's company and its equipment. Her father gave her a necklace with a top secret formula and requested she never take the necklace off. Astoria also has a thing for Powerglide, she probably spends her time with the Hilton sisters.
Professor Greene

Desertion of the Dinobots (Part 1)

Director

Hoist Goes Hollywood

Hoist Goes Hollywood

Alan Oppenheimer
The Director knows exactly what makes a good film when he sees it. It might be some great stunt work, awesome explosions, or giant transforming robots, he will film it and put it in his film (and change the script to make it fit)! Just don't bug him with the details. Kept on calling Hoist "Moist".

Assistant director

Hoist Goes Hollywood

Hoist Goes Hollywood
Bud Davis
The assistant director's job was chiefly to follow the director around and agree with him a lot. Occasionally, he had original ideas, but the director tried to discourage that sort of thing.

Production assistant

Harold Edsel

Hoist Goes Hollywood

Hoist Goes Hollywood

Ed Gilbert
Harold had the bad luck of "starring" in a science fiction film along with Karen Fishook whose director became obsessed with using Hoist and several of the Autobots as his main characters (likely saving loads on his FX budget). For reasons that are unclear, he bears some resemblance to the Star Warrior Han Solo and Harrison Ford.
Poplock

Auto-Bop

Auto-Bop

Frank Welker
Poplock is a member of the Bop Crew. In case his costume isn't 1980s enough to get into nightclubs, under his clothing he wears an additional shirt which is even more lurid. Like Raoul, he has a predilection for making pop culture references.
Rocksteady

Auto-Bop

Auto-Bop

T. K. Carter
Rocksteady is a member of the Bop Crew. He is got some sharp moves. How sharp? He keeps his hat on while he break-dances, and it never falls off! He seems to be the most pragmatic of the trio, but is easily distracted by the opportunity to show off his dance moves.
Furg

Auto-Bop

Auto-Bop

Chris Latta

Furg was utilized by Starscream to frighten off and/or dispose of people who interfered with the flow of customers into the Dancitron nightclub, which apparently included going after innocent breakdancers, he led a gang of roughly fifteen punks and one mind-controlled businessman in performing his strongarm sidewalk defense. Furg's equipment, presumably furnished by the Decepticons, included at least two laser pistols and a communications device featuring a video display.

The Sharkticons
Amphibious Anthropomorphic Shark

Transformers: The Movie

The Return of Optimus Prime (Part 2)

Frank Welker, Roger C. Carmel (Movie), Bud Davis (The Quintesson Journal), Jim Cummings (Money is Everything)
Massive, rotund, powerfully built and virtually brainless, Sharkticons are the perfect killing machines and thus the ideal enforcers to carry out the Quintessons' verdicts. The jaws and teeth of the Sharkticon are so powerful and strong that they can snap a six inch-thick titanium steel rod in 0.23 of a second. Their spiked tails can crush the heaviest armor plating. But the real reason for their invincibility lies in their overwhelming numbers. Like piranhas, Sharkticons attack their prey en masse and are totally oblivious to the casualties the target might inflict. They know how to do only one thing, and that is to destroy. They perform that function perfectly and they travel in packs. Fearless and oblivious, loyal only to the master who last fed him. Powerful tail fin allows them to travel at speeds over 150 knots. Carnivorous with a voracious appetite, they possess several rows of razor-sharp teeth that can tear through solid steel. In robot mode, they carry a maceration laser that shoots salt-based corrosive liquid. They also carry a barbed mace.

Regis Cordic (Quintesson #1), Roger C. Carmel (Quintesson #2), Jack Angel (Quintesson #3), Tony Pope (Quintesson #4, The Big Broadcast of 2006, The Quintesson Journal and The Return of Optimus Prime), Paul Eiding (Quintesson #5, The Quintesson Journal), Clive Revill (Quintesson #6, The Return of Optimus Prime)
An alien race who lived on Cybertron and used it as a huge factory to produce several kinds of lifeforms, including robots, which were sold as consumer good and military hardware. These would eventually become the Transformers. Extremely self-serving and devious.

Unicron

Planet

Transformers: The Movie

Call of the Primitives

Orson Welles, Roger C. Carmel
A planet-sized Transformer whose only goal is to devour planets, despite his incredible intelligence and power. Created Galvatron, Cyclonus and his Armada, Scourge and the Sweeps from the bodies of Megatron, Bombshell, Skywarp, Thundercracker, Shrapnel, and Kickback, respectively. Destroyed by Rodimus Prime and the Autobot Matrix of Leadership, later partially reactivated by Scourge and Starscream's ghost.

Tornedron

Planet

Call of the Primitives

Call of the Primitives

Neil Ross
Tornedron was the successor to Unicron, created by Unicron's creator Primacron. Unlike Unicron, Tornedron was an energy-based lifeform, controlled by Primacron's remote control. It consumed other energies, leaving stars dead and planets inert; its final purpose was to leave the entire universe a blank slate for Primacron to do with as he pleased. Unfortunately for Primacron, while Tornedron succeeded in draining most of the universe's energy, it also became just as rebellious as his predecessor. However, Grimlock defeated it before the creature could consume its creator; he threw it into reverse, returning all the energy it stole to its original locations and dispersing the entity.
Nightbird
None

Enter the Nightbird, only appearance
No Voice

Nightbird is a human construct with a single form and thus not actually a Transformer herself. Created by Dr. Fujiyama, she was a non-transforming ninja robot. She was stolen by the Decepticons and reprogrammed to infiltrate the Ark and steal the World Energy Source from Teletran I. She would subsequently be defeated and returned to her creator by the Autobots, and didn't appear for the remainder of the animated series. In comics associated with the Botcon storyline, however, an army of Nightbird drones would later battle several Autobots, eventually perishing when Daniel Witwicky set off a powerful explosive that destroyed not only the drones but also himself and the Autobot Wheelie.
Nergil
None

Atlantis, Arise!, only appearance

Wally Burr
King Nergill rules Sub-Atlantica, a hidden kingdom of water-breathing humanoid fishmen. Their relationship to humanity proper is uncertain. Like most people Megatron makes deals with, he is devious and pretty much out for his own gain.
Guardian robots
Rocket/tank/Rocket base

War Dawn, first appearance

Forever Is a Long Time Coming, last appearance
Flaskback in Transformers Animated,
The Guardian robots were once the peacekeepers of Cybertron, powerful giants that guarded cities and quelled uprisings. The Guardians gave the Decepticons much trouble at the outbreak of the Third Cybertronian War, but by the modern era they were no longer so prevalent, The most notable surviving Guardian is Omega Supreme, who is the only one seen to have his own name, distinct color scheme, and personality; it is unknown how unique these qualities actually are.

Dion
Cybertronian car

War Dawn
Flashback in Transformers Animated

Corey Burton
Dion is an earnest dock worker and best friend to Orion Pax. His is a simple life of manual labor, and he does not give a second thought to the stories that a war may be brewing around him. What does interest him are those new-fangled flying robots. Maybe someday he will get to meet them...?

Allicons

Crocodilian creatures

The Transformers: The Movie

The Quintesseon Journal

Aron Kincaid
Allicons are another breed of the Quintessons' enforcer-units, often used as guards for more important members of the race. They are slightly smarter than the Sharkticons, even capable of speech, but free will has been pretty thoroughly removed from their programming, to the point where they will malfunction if resisting a direct order, they transform into bipedal, vaguely crocodilian creatures.
Chaos
Mineral monster

Chaos

Chaos
None
Chaos is a large alien monster, native to the planet Dread. Its skin is composed of an unbelievably destructive mineral known as death crystals. Apparently, death crystals are also the only thing that can hurt it.
Shrikebat

Bat Monster

The Transformers: The Movie

Chaos
None
Shrikebats are large, purple, flying, vaguely reptilian creatures. Found on Dromedon and Dread, a group of them is referred to as a "wreck" of shrikebats, or, more commonly "aiiiiiieee get them off get them off my eyes oh dear gooaaaarrrrrghkklgkglllll". They're extremely vicious creatures. Thankfully, they don't like it when you invert polarities, which drives them off.

Primacron

Monkey

Call of the Primitives

Call of the Primitives

Hal Rayle
Primacron is an absolutely ancient scientist. He is supposedly hyper-intelligent with an infinity of intricate plans nested within plans, but he sometimes over-thinks things to the point of coming off as rather dim, his major claim to fame is being responsible for building Unicron at the dawn of the galaxy. Thanks for nothing.
Oracle

Call of the Primitives

Call of the Primitives

Five Faces of Darkness(Part 1)

Grimlock's New Brain

Scamper
Cybertronic six-wheel car

Five Faces of Darkness (Part 5)

The Ultimate Weapon

Dan Gilvezan
Scamper is part of the composite whole that is the Autobot city, Metroplex. Although autonomous in his own right, with an impulsive and sociable personality, Scamper is an extension of Metroplex, and commonly patrols the peripheries of the giant Autobot's city form in his sports car mode alongside Slammer.

Six-Gun
None

Thief in the Night

Thief in the Night

Maurice LaMarche
The name Six-Gun isn't just metaphoric; this Autobot soldier is literally a walking, talking mass of weaponry. Six-Gun is one of Metroplex's autonomous troops, and is composed of six of the city-bot's guns. Along with Scamper and Slammer, he helps patrol and defend Metroplex's interior and periphery. Like his partners, he is mentally linked to Metroplex, and shares a similar personality. Perhaps befitting a living artillery battery, Six-Gun tends to be a bit more blustery and belligerent than his teammates.

Slammer
Nothing but only a Cybertronic tank in robot mode

Thief in the Night

The Ultimate Weapon

Chris Latta
Slammer, a drone controlled by Metroplex, does not do much. He is usually seen in the form of Metroplex's left rear tower, and is rarely seen in tank form.

Marvel Comics
No Voice
Brunt is a tank that splits into several towers of Trypticon's city mode (plus a couple of leftover pieces). In battle station mode, Trypticon uses Brunt's turret as his main cannon. Though the towers and/or cannon have been seen in each of the continuities Trypticon has appeared in, the tank mode is a much rarer sight. Only two universes acknowledge Brunt's separate existence, and even then just as a mindless drone.

Wipeout
Cybertronic car

Marvel comics

Marvel Comics
No Voice
A lumbering, powerful Transformer like Trypticon has many important things to attend to (like destruction). When he needs some small task done, he calls on Wipeout to do it. Wipe-Out serves Trypticon with an astonishing level of toadying sycophancy, layering on so many compliments that he actually irritates the giant with them.

Mini-Cassettes

Cassette warriors (or "Mini-Cassettes", or simply "Cassettes"or “Mini-Cons” like in Transformers Robots in disguise) are tiny Transformers; they are no taller than the humans. Their alternate mode is that of a microcassette.

According to The Transformers' version, in the days of Megatron, Decepticons developed the art of espionage using cassette technology. Their first cassette, Laserbeak, could fly undetected into any Autobot stronghold, record information and then return to base. Then the Decepticons decided to increase their spying abilities with Ratbat. As a bat, Ratbat can hide in crevices that Laserbeak cannot reach, and is especially effective in tunnels, caves or in the darkness of space. Ratbat records from the Autobots' most carefully guarded secrets. The Autobots had no choice but to strike back with these Decepticon techniques of stealth, building their own force of cassette Transformers, with Blaster as their guardian. They constructed Ramhorn, the rhino, who can use animalistic force if cornered, and Steeljaw, the lion, who can crawl through the foliage of any alien world, to sneak up on Decepticons. They also bolstered their cassette force with Rewind and Eject, who can transform to robot mode and use more conventional fighting force techniques.

The alternate version of the Cassette warriors' origin is stated in the animated series. According to this version, they (or, at any rate, the beast-moded ones) were once created by the divine inventor Primacron.

Alive
An Earthen sports fanatic... sports cliches clutter his conversation; a surprise attack is a "fast break," a victory is a "touchdown." Few Autobots understand what he says, but they like the enthusiasm with which he says it. Could be a play-by-play announcer, if given the chance. In cassette mode, can monitor and record local radio and TV, decode scrambled signals, tap telephones. In robot mode, uses electrical overload guns. Sometimes his internal tape snaps when he is excited.

Madman's Paradise

Townsend Coleman
Alive
Autobot trivia expert – his memory banks have amazing capacity to store data that is virtually of no use to anyone. Not much help when asked about something important. Internal light-matrix data store system has nearly infinite data storage capacity. Can turn into blinding beacon by releasing some of this light energy. Uses adhesion rifles that shoot unbreakable metal-bonding glue. Prone to severe cerebro-circuit overloads, what Earthlings call "headaches."

Don't touch him if you value your life, 'cause he will smash you. Extremely territorial, nasty hair-trigger temper. Best way to deal with him is from a distance. His charge is virtually unstoppable – can knock a train off its tracks or upend an 18-wheeler with one blow. Has two batteries of three laser-guided, heat-seeking missiles that can lock in and hit a target up to twelve miles away. Has no friends, only business partners... his only allegiance is to himself. Refuels by plunging his mecha-fangs into new cars' gas lines – the better made the car, the better the gasoline tastes. Maximum flying speed: 65 mph. Carries two radar-guided, free-electron lasers that detect the presence of an object as small as a fly. Wings contain mechanical sensors for locating fuel sources. Has one foot wingspan that can enlarge to ten feet. Wings are vulnerable to artillery.

Slugfest

Stegosaurus

Call of the Primitives

Call of the Primitives, only appearance
Frank Welker
Alive
He is as slow and stupid as he looks. Plays back the messages he carries, thinks others are talking about him, goes into violent rages. End result is usually destruction of messages and nearby small towns that get in his way. In stegosaurus mode, plates on back, like teeth on a chainsaw, cut through almost any substance; carries 2 solar-powered vibro-cannons.

Overkill

Tyrannosaurus rex

Call of the Primitives

Call of the Primitives, only appearance
Frank Welker
Alive
Whether talking, terrifying, or attacking, he does everything to excess. So busy proving how tough he is by snapping cars in half between his jaws, that he forgets his mission. Can record data as a cassette, rip open the hull of a battleship as a tyrannosaurus. Armed with 2 batteries of motion missiles—each reacts to any moving object bigger than a baseball and explodes on contact.

Arcana
None

The Rebirth (Part 1)

The Rebirth (Part 3)

Jack Angel
For a man whose work has had such a big effect on the lives of so many Nebulans and Transformers, very few people really know the distant and remote Arcana. Not even Brainstorm, who shares his psyche, can claim to truly fathom the workings of his partner's mind. But then, Arcana seems to cultivate an extremely anti-social persona unintentionally, training first as a medical doctor, only to grow bored and focus on long-forgotten and repudiated scientific lore of his planet, earning the ire of medical colleagues. Yet it was this combination of knowledge and skill, along with the combined input of his future partner, that allowed the creation of the Binary Bonding process.

Stylor
None

The Rebirth (Part 2)

The Rebirth (Part 2)

Milt Jamin
Stylor is gorgeous. Always impeccably dressed and groomed and always in the latest style. He spends most of his time primping and polishing either Chromedome or himself, and is renowned on Nebulos for his exquisite taste and dashing good looks. Though he loves the ladies, he surprisingly doesn't have the greatest luck there, since few want to spend much time with a man who's so focused on being prettier than they are. It is suspected that Stylor volunteered for the Headmaster process simply because it was trendy at the time, his Autobot partner Chromedome, being an inveterate academic and computer nerd, is something of a frustration to Stylor, but he does his best to bring out the big guy's cooler, more social side (which he figures MUST be in there somewhere). Chromedome in return tries to get Stylor to be a little less superficial.

Duros
None

The Rebirth (Part 1)

The Rebirth (Part 3)

Charlie Adler
Duros was born to be a soldier on a world without war. He served for years as the head of security for the Nebulan Ruling Council and spent most of that time horribly bored and unsatisfied. The coming of the Transformers to Nebulos may have been a tragedy for most of his race, but it was quite possibly the best thing to ever happen to Duros... and also the worst, in Hardhead he has found a kindred spirit, and the two have bonded over their shared interest in combat and warfare to become one of the closest pairings among all the Headmasters. The dependable, resourceful, and stoic Duros is a great addition to the Autobot army, but his eager desire for action and love of combat have made him an outsider among the naturally peaceful Nebulans and has led him to be shunned even by his family and, most painfully, his now estranged wife. Duros shuts the pain that his failed personal life causes him away and focuses instead on being the soldier he always felt destined to be.

Gort
None

The Rebirth (Part 1)

The Rebirth (Part 3)

Michael Bell
The all-American boy of the Nebulan Headmasters, Gort rose up from a lowly position as stable boy to courageous defender of his planet. The idealistic teenager never has an unkind word for anybody and serves as a shining example of the best the Nebulan Headmasters have to offer, it's a pity, then, that Gort was partnered with his polar opposite, the elitist snob Highbrow, who takes considerable offense to being binary bonded with what he sees as a mere commoner. Their pairing is among the worst of the Autobot Headmasters, often detracting, not adding, to Highbrow's effectiveness in combat as he refuses to listen to Gort's suggestions except in all but the most life-threatening situations.

Grax
None

The Rebirth (Part 2)

The Rebirth (Part 2)

Milt Jamin
A ruthless businessman and industrialist, Grax was willing to do whatever it took to solidify his place at the top of Nebulan business world. Not that he needed much convincing to undergo the binary bonding process to combine with Skullcruncher in order to eliminate his business rivals, the Decepticon methods of utterly and cruelly absorbing all foes were just more literally bloody versions of Grax's own. Skullcruncher didn't see the similarity though, Nebulan corporate types were barely even a snack... Grax adds considerably to the somewhat slow mind of Skullcruncher, which admittedly isn't hard, but still finds most of his suggestions ignored unless they involve eating the corpses of your enemies or inventive noises to make when grinding your teeth.

Vorath
None

The Rebirth (Part 2)

The Rebirth (Part 2)

Charlie Adler
Vorath was the former Minister of Science of the planet Nebulos. A Zarak loyalist, Vorath was expelled from his office when Galen uncovered his involvement in illegal medical experiments on live subjects. Seeking revenge, Vorath gained the chance to do so and continue his experiments with the arrival of Transformers and the creation of the Headmasters, when he agreed to binary bond to Mindwipe.

Monzo
None

The Rebirth (Part 2)

The Rebirth (Part 3)

Neil Ross
On Nebulos, Monzo was a professional hyperwrestler before he became a nightclub owner. He is a brutal fellow who doesn't appreciate the fine art of tactics or strategy. He especially hates poetry, which puts him at odds with his Headmaster partner, Weirdwolf. However, they both find common ground in wanting to beat stuff up.

Spasma
None

The Rebirth (Part 2)

The Rebirth (Part 2)

Tony St. James
The nervous and insecure Spasma was the son of a despised noble family on Nebulos, bullied and picked on his entire life while being crushed under the weight of a bankrupt family legacy. The arrival of the Transformers on his planet and the creation of the Headmasters gave him the prospect of power to escape his feeling of inadequacy, or so he thought... outwardly, Spasma had his wish fulfilled when he was binary bonded to Apeface, literally becoming the kind of bully who had previously tormented him. But all too frequently, the pressure of combat will wear away at Spasma, until Apeface is actions trigger a torturous flashback from the Nebulan's past, reducing him to a whimpering, crying wreck.

Krunk
None

The Rebirth (Part 2)

The Rebirth (Part 2)

Christopher Collins
Krunk is Zarak's nasty, brutish bodyguard. He takes orders from Zarak without question, no matter how illegal or rotten they are, as Snapdragon's Headmaster, he enhances the Decepticon's thuggish personality rather nicely. Two peas in a pod, really.

Daniel Witwicky
None

The Transformers: The Movie

The Rebirth (Part 3)

David Mendenhall
Daniel Witwicky is the human son of Spike and Carly Witwicky. He is approximately 12 years of age in 2005, and was presumably born sometime between 1990 and 1993. He is the grandson of Sparkplug Witwicky. Daniel often gets into trouble, which requires either his father or the Autobots to save him. He is very good friends with the Autobots, particularly Wheelie, Grimlock, and Hot Rod, but the one he is closest to is Arcee, who views him as a surrogate son. Daniel is (sometimes) the Headmaster partner to Arcee.

Haywire
electro-laser cannon

The Rebirth (Part 1)

The Rebirth (Part 3)

Rob Paulsen
One of the younger Nebulans to binary bond to a Transformer, Haywire is very much of the "act first, think later"-impulsive-teenage mold. In that respect, the relationship between Haywire and his partner Blurr is one where they get on like a house on fire, but also a classic example of the lack of planning in the early stages of Targetmasters bonding for how effective a combat team they would make. Transforming into an electro-laser cannon, Haywire is just as hyperactive as his partner in combat, often more concerned with how often he fires than where he is aiming or how effective his shots are.

Pinpointer
Pistol

The Rebirth (Part 1)

The Rebirth (Part 3)

Frank Welker
Pinpointer is a Nebulan of few words. He is binary bonded to Crosshairs.

Firebolt
electrostatic Discharge rifle

The Rebirth (Part 1)

The Rebirth (Part 3)

Dick Gautier
Firebolt was once a quiet scholar on the pacifistic planet of Nebulos, where he was renowned as one of its top atomic physicists. Beneath his meek and reserved exterior, however, young Firebolt yearned for a life of action and excitement. His dreams of adventure might never have come true, if not for the intervention of the Decepticons. When the call went out for Nebulans who would be willing to take up arms in defense of their planet, Firebolt was amongst the first to volunteer. Undergoing the extensive and painful procedure known as Binary bonding, Firebolt was given a special suit of black and grey armour and granted the power to transform himself into a powerful double-barreled weapon called an "electrostatic discharge rifle", although eager for the chance to make a difference and have some fun, Firebolt soon found that his own exuberance paled in comparison to his Targetmaster partner: a young Autobot named Hot Rod. Firebolt's opinion of this situation is what could be described as "cautiously optimistic" – he is excited by all the action and adventure of being a Targetmaster, but he is also very nervous at some of the risks that Hot Rod insists on taking at times.

Recoil
musket laser rifle

The Rebirth (Part 1)

The Rebirth (Part 3)

Johnny Haymer
One of the older Nebulans to join the Autobots, Recoil was a former All-World Prismaball champion on his home planet, until age finally caught up with him. While helping to keep Nebulos safe is part of why he agreed to undergo binary bonding to become a Targetmaster, a large part was to prove to himself as much as to others that he still had what it takes. Transforming into a version of Kup's original old-style musket laser, Recoil has found a good match with the crusty Autobot, both seeking the respect they feel their age and experience deserves.

Peacemaker
sonic blaster

The Rebirth (Part 2)

The Rebirth (Part 3)

Steve Bulen
Peacemaker is an upbeat, almost contagiously positive Nebulan police officer. He keeps trying to cheer up his Autobot partner Pointblank to little result. Pointblank doesn't feel the Autobots should have involved the Nebulans in the war to begin with, and so disapproves of his partner and his advice on principle. Those who know him, though, say that Peacemaker has actually made progress in improving the dour Autobot's world view. Not a lot of progress, mind you... Thankfully Peacemaker knows how to be patient, loves a challenge, and is firm in his belief that optimism leads to success.

Spoilsport
double cannon

The Rebirth (Part 2)

The Rebirth (Part 3)

Danny Mann
Spoilsport has a rather appropriate moniker, given that he spoils the fun of his partner Sureshot by being an equally good marksman. In a contest between an intelligent gun and an intelligent gunner, the gun gets a majority vote. His partner resents his interference, and in his turn, the Nebulan resents Sureshot for his lack of appreciation. It cannot help that Sureshot is a jerk, of course, and presumably he never calls.

Nightstick
beam gun

The Rebirth (Part 2)

The Rebirth (Part 3)

Peter Cullen
Back on Nebulos, Nightstick was a master criminal. For some reason, he gave that up to undergo binary-bonding to Cyclonus. The loyal and honorable Decepticon warrior often finds himself at odds with the very dishonorable Nightstick and generally considers him an irritating pest.

Aimless
beam gun

The Rebirth (Part 2)

The Rebirth (Part 2)

Milt Jamin
Aimless should have been called "Useless". This Nebulan's success rate when he tries to hit a target is unknown, because that would require him to, you know, actually try. Together with his Targetmaster partner Misfire, he is a danger to himself and others. Mostly others.

Fracas
Incendiary cannon

The Rebirth (Part 2)

The Rebirth (Part 2)

Neil Ross
Fracas's new Targetmaster body allows him to transform into an incendiary cannon for his new Decepticon partner Scourge—fitting, since Fracas is himself a hot-running, volatile scrapper who explodes into violent rages.

Caliburst
lange barrel gun

The Rebirth (Part 2)

The Rebirth (Part 2)

Johnny Haymer
Like his binary bonded partner Slugslinger, Caliburst is merely putting on an act and playing the role of the cold and fearless Decepticon warrior he outwardly projects; it's just that he is generally more adept at keeping the mask up because of his former life as an actor. While not a good actor, more the kind to be found in the freezer section next to the other pork products, Caliburst does know the importance of staying in character. Given that he joined the Transformer conflict for the money because there was no one left on Nebulos that could stomach appreciate his "talent", he has an incentive to not screw up, Slugslinger treats his partner fairly well, mostly due to the direct link between the condition of the Decepticon's backbone infrastructure in combat and the condition of his weaponry.

Blowpipe
Compression cannon

The Rebirth (Part 2)

The Rebirth (Part 3)

John Moschitta, Jr.
The conniving brother-in-law of Lord Zarak, Blowpipe managed the political campaign that brought him and kept him in power. While a smooth political operator with endless connections, Blowpipe lacks the physical presence and style of a leader, causing him to resent his brother-in-law for taking all the glory when he did all the "real" work, treating combat like he would a political campaign, Blowpipe plots and plans things in advance, leaving nothing to chance, which puts him at odds with his binary bonded partner Triggerhappy, whose idea of combat tactics is to wave his gun around randomly as fast as he can and shoot really, really fast.
